How Does a 2021 Senior Chase His Dreams?

Hunter. To pursue. An English name, by derivation. The website mamanatural.com provides an historical origin for baby names. The site explains “the name Chase is a confident choice for a go-getter, his wearer unafraid of blazing his own trails towards success. He bucks many trends yet is equally fashionable, carving out his own slice of happiness wherever life takes him.” Although I did not know one special Chase, a 2021 senior, well, I feel as though this strong name is a fitting one for this wonderful young man that I had the privilege to photograph.

I came to know quite a lot about Chase before (actually, long before) and during our session. I met his mom quite a few years ago, and as moms of boys do – we talked about our sons. We blinked, and our sons were grown. We found ourselves re-connecting for this session, and I saw the pride she has for the man he has become and what he has accomplished. She told me of his love for volunteer firefighting and his desire for serving in that capacity when he is in college. She told me of his love for his Jeep – and anything outdoors. It was then that I started to see the pictures in my head of the tracks and of him gazing out over a rocky shoreline and an expanse of water. During our session, we had a great time and bonded over my less than lady-like sprawl on the tracks and in the weeds (thank goodness for no chiggers) to get some of the shots. The ultimate was jumping up, off the tracks, grabbing everything in sight, and scrambling up the bank and through the poison-oak infested woods to avoid detection (and getting run over) – hypothetically – of course!

After we finished our session, I felt like I had known him through his growing years. I am invested in seeing the dreams he told me about that for his future come true. I cannot wait to see him thrive at Hampden Sydney. It will be my joy seeing him excel in economics and computer science, ruling Wall Street one day! However, my greatest joy for him will be when Chase, “the hunter”, pursues that which brings him the greatest joy – so that he never has to work a day in his life.

Blessings ~
